Better Together:  The New Philanthropists

Have you ever wanted to be a philanthropist, but thought that was only for millionaires?  Not anymore!  With giving circles, a new grassroots-style of philanthropy, members pool their money, learn about an area of community need, and vote on projects to support.  These combined gifts can make a huge impact on our community… and you can have more fun by learning, giving, and socializing together!

The Community Foundation is proud to sponsor our community’s first giving circle, the New Philanthropists, which launched in the 2009-2010 year.  The New Philanthropists have chosen the topic of hunger, and took time to learn about nonprofits in the area that try to meet this need.

By combining gifts, the New Philanthropists are able to grant $2,000 to a Monroe County agency, as well as to begin a community endowment.  Voting for this year's grantee took place on April 10th and an award was made to Mother Hubbard's Cupboard.  To read the thank you letter from Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, describing  the work that this grant will help carry out, click the torch icon below.

If you weren't able to participate this year, please consider joining for the 2010-2011 year and help us grow Better Together!
