he Community Foundation serves Bloomington and Monroe County in a variety of ways:  by promoting and facilitating philanthropy for our community; by administering permanent endowment funds, and by awarding grants to make life better for area residents.

In addition, the Community Foundation plays a unique role in leveraging resources and building partnerships to enhance the local quality of life.  Currently, special initiatives include:

• The Matchstick program is a matching grant initiative to build agency endowments supporting local non-profits.
• The Monroe County Access To Recreation Initiative is planning and building the Karst Farm Playscape, an inclusive recreation area at Karst Farm Park.
• The Foundation's Middle Schoolers' Initiative aims to address the gap in after-school programming for this age group.
• Monroe County Children Matter! (CAPE), begun through a major grant from Lilly Endowment, consists of several initiatives to address children’s education and development.
• The Community Foundation owns several conservation properties that are managed for the benefit of area residents and wildlife.
